KatuTuro, the offline educational tool, was built in direct response to the realities we witnessed in the Ayta Sambal classrooms.
During our field visits and interviews, teachers shared consistent challenges.
The learning materials passed down to them by DepEd are not contextualized to the Ayta Sambal culture. Therefore, teachers are forced to spend additional time to localize lessons on their own.
Because of the unreliable signal and limited devices in their schools, online platforms and digital tools used in mainstream learning are often inaccessible to them.
The teachers emphasized that Ayta Sambal learners still struggle with reading & literacy, even with Filipino. The deeper concern is this is not just the case for elementary students, but even high school students.
